This past Friday some of our staff took a little road trip to Asheville, North Carolina for HempX!
It was a regional meeting that talked about the landscape of industrial hemp in North Carolina as well as its surrounding region. Whenever discussing regional progress that has been made in terms of industrial hemp, West Virginia has to be mentioned even though we are only in our first year of our pilot program.
“The genie is out of the bottle” is a phrase used by panelists at HempX to describe the direction of the hemp market, referring to it’s growth potential and how it is not likely to go backwards.
Although WV is in our first year of the pilot program, it sets precedent for future operations. There is much support shown from the WV Department of Agriculture. This is telling!! Chris Ferro, the chief of staff for the WV Dept. of Ag, spoke at the WV Hemp Farmers Cooperative Annual Conference at the Blennerhassett Hotel in Parkersburg, WV.
Chris Ferro mentioned how the WV Department of AG is considering dedicating one staff member solely to industrial hemp development in WV. With plenty of more work ahead of us, this new assistance from the state will provide more opportunities for us in the future.
Stay tuned!! It’s an exciting time to be a hempster.
